Albion's Musical History
ALBION, MI - September 23, 2014 - The Albion Historical Society will present "Albion's Music Through the Ages" on Saturday October 11 at 6:30 PM. The venue is the Caring Community Church, located at 1015 Irwin Ave. (Google map to location)
"Music is what feelings sound like" is the program's theme.
- Native Indians, the first settlers to our area, will share their music and insight,
- followed by Civil War reinactors playing appropriate songs of their time.
- A violinist will play parlor music giving the audience a sense of Albion's early entertainment.
- Several songs were written in our town,
- including "The Old Rugged Cross", which will be sung by the St. John's Catholic Church choir.
- Albion College Fraternity, Sigma Chi, will share "The Sweetheart of Sigma Chi".
- Local artists will perform spiritual, folk, country, soul, rock n' roll, hip-hop, and rap.
- In 1992, Barbara Gladney composed and sang "Albion is Our Town - Your Town" and will present it again.
- Kelly Kidder will follow with a current tune and then, there will be surprise for everyone!
Refreshments and fellowship as well as door prizes will round out the evening. Admission is free -- a real family friendly event!
As a lead-in, the Historical Society has a display in the showcases located in the Adult Room of the Albion District Library.
