THE HISTORY OF ALBION MICHIGAN

Frank Passic This is the web version of the writings of Frank Passic, (albionfp@hotmail.com) including the weekly columns that appear in the Morning Star Shopper, Albion Recorder, The Mich-Matist, and other topics Mr. Passic has written about, such as Lithuanian culture, Numismatics and scuba diving. Even the most casual of readers will find these articles educational, more than a little interesting, and often amusing. To see what articles have been most recently added, check here.

Many readers are looking for Albion ancestors, here is a list of People mentioned in this online version of the Albion History pages. Not all of Frank's stories that were originally published are included here.

To find your way around this unusual online library, there is a Subject List, a Table of Contents (in order of publication date) which features From The Archives (between 1978-2006) found in the Albion Recorder, and the Albion Historical Notebook, found in the Morning Star Shopper (1989-present), as well as the monthly series One Hundred Years Ago (starting in 1899). Scroll down this page to see a more complete list of the contents of this ambitious local history project.

An Albion native, Frank Passic is a 1971 graduate of Albion High School and has been writing Albion history articles since 1976. Here are some of his informative studies, The Kalamazoo River in Albion; Health Care Facilities in Albion; Around the World with Gwen Dew; and the Albion Bank Scandal.

He has also written and published several books, such as ALBION (postcards), and Albion in the 20th Century both of those titles are published by Arcadia Press. With other publishers he has written Growing Up in Albion, Albion in Review, A History of the Albion Public Schools, History of Albion, Albion's Banks and Bankers, Homestead Savings and the Builders of Albion, and Presenting 25 Years of the Albion Civic Foundation.

His legacy of newspaper articles examine many interesting topics as he explores the mysteries of Calhoun County, Michigan. Each month he provides a peek at events of the days One Hundred Years Ago, which give a strong flavor of the tone of the era a Century ago in the little town by the Forks, on the Kalamazoo River. A History of the Albion Public Schools, and Albion in Review are available today directly from Frank for $20 plus $12 p & h (postage went up). Many of Frank's books are sold at Stirling Books & Brew, and at Pure Albion in downtown Albion.

He has an extensive collection of Albion history archives, including Riverside Cemetery records and obituaries, family surname files, genealogies, photographs, city directories, high school yearbooks, Calhoun county plat maps, history books and other materials which he uses to help people research their Albion roots. He is always looking for various materials to add to the collection.

We have started a Go Fund Me for Frank's history work and it has a nifty button for making a contribution. If you could help out with a dollar or five we would be very grateful. As you know, history doesn't pay (sort of like being a musician, too....) and so the GFM will help with Frank's ink cartridges, paper, etc. Every bit helps. Thank you!

Feel free to contact Frank with your questions or comments by way of email anytime, he enjoys finding out more about Albion History, and sharing it. For more discussion about Historic Albion Mich, there is a Facebook group.
