1954 BOY SCOUT TROOP 60

Morning Star, September 21, 2008, pg. 3

Albion once had several Boy Scout troops during the boom years of the 1950s. This week we feature a picture of one of them, circa 1954. This photo comes to us from Gary Fouts who was a member of this troop. Gary, and also Ken Lauer helped tentatively identify several of the boys in this photo, but we still need others identified. If you think you might be able to identify anyone else, please let me know. I can e-mail you a copy of this photo for better investigation. E-mail me at: Albionfp@hotmail.com

Troop 60 was sponsored by the American Legion, and met in the meeting room above the garage portion of the Legion, then located at 211 E. Michigan Avenue. The troop began meeting in the new Rieger Park skating shelter beginning in 1955.

Sitting in the front, left to right, are: James Johnson, Kenneth Kulikowski, and on the far right unidentified. 2nd row: James Terry, Gary Fouts, Karl Lutzka, unidentified, unidentified, and unidentified. 3rd row: Kent Cartwright, Ken Lauer, Sam Cheek, unidentified, Alan Peterson, Dennis Sweet, Murray Shultz, and scoutmaster Walter Carroll. Top row: Clarence Hose, Fred Herriff, Bill Coleman, August Pittelkow, Alan Campbell, and Jack Peace. Do you recognize any others in this photo?
