ALBION POSTCARDS BOOK PUBLISHED

Morning Star, September 22, 2013, pg. 11

I am happy to announce the publication of my ninth (9th) book about Albion, entitled "Albion," part of the Postcard History Series published by Arcadia Press of Charleston, South Carolina. This 128-page soft cover book features 230 historical picture postcards of Albion from my own personal collection. Postcards were once quite significant many years ago, and many of them contained pictures of the town they originate from. Albion is fortunate that there were many picture postcards that were produced here.

The first chapter focuses on Albion College with 43 cards. This includes the fraternity and sorority houses that once existed here. Anyone who went to Albion College will find that chapter filled with memories and heritage. Chapter Two takes the reader up and down Superior St., showing the businesses and merchants that once existed here. Chapter Three focuses on the Kalamazoo River and even includes photos of the great Flood of 1908. Other chapters feature: Railroads; Industries; People, Places & Events; and Novelty Cards.

This is one of those books you won't want to lay down once you start reading it. There are so many memories here about our Albion heritage. This book would be good to keep on your coffee or office waiting room table for guests to read, and also for someone who used to live here and now lives in another town or state. The neat thing is that you, my readers, have already seen many of these cards in this column over the past twenty years, so you know the history about them! That fact alone should entice you to obtain a copy. This is the first time that a collection of Albion postcards has ever been published. I thank you my readers for helping me obtain them over the past many years.

The book retails for $21.99 each plus Michigan Sales Tax. I will have copies with me wherever I go, and will gladly accept mail orders. You can also pick up copies at my house. For further information, contact me at: Albionfp@hotmail.com, or call at (517) 629-5402. Books will also be available at retail outlets including Books and More, and other area bookstores beginning September 30. In addition to the Festival of the Forks on September 21, I plan on having them at the Homer Fall Festival on Saturday, September 28. I'll see you there!

From our Historical Notebook this week we present the front cover of my new book. Thank you readers, for your help and information which helped make this book possible.
