Albion 100 Years Ago - MARCH, 1926

Morning Star, March 6, 2026, pg. 8

We continue with our theme of "Albion - 100 Years Ago." March 1, 1926: "The stock of goods and fixtures of the clothing store of R. F. Hahn will be sold at public auction next Monday, March 8 at 11 o'clock in the morning. Creditors of Mr. Hahn will hold a meeting at 5:15 that afternoon at Attorney E. R. Loud's office." "About 75 Albion boys, pupils in the Baptist Sunday school, took a trip to Homer Saturday afternoon, visiting the Campbell Dairy Products company's plant, and the Calhoun State Bank. They were members of three classes: The King's Sons, taught by Earl Connor; The Wolverines, taught by Stephen Matechik; and the Helpers, taught by Orville Biggs."

March 8, 1926: "The Dalrymple School was reopened this morning after being closed for ten days because of the presence of scarlet fever cases among the pupils. The epidemic is believed to have been checked."

March 10, 1926: "Levi S. Wild of Butte, Montana, former Albion man who is known as the dean of western telegraph operators, today celebrated his 80th birthday at his home in Butte. He was born in Albion and learned the telegraphers' business here." "William H. Prim, aged 86 years, well known farmer of this community died at 3:15 Tuesday afternoon. Mr. Prim was a member of a highly respected Indian family. He was a well-educated man, and had attended Alboin College."

March 16, 1926. Headline: Mike Dubina's Store Damaged Monday Night. Overheated Stove Causes a Bad Blaze. Loss is Over $3,000."

March 17, 1926. "Judge Walter H. North in circuit court Monday issued an order for the sale of the property of the Cement Casket Manufacturing Company of Albion to Frank N. Arbaugh of Lansing, for $5,975."

March 24, 1926. "Remember to take an egg to church next Sunday. At whatever church you attend you will find crates at the door to receive your edible offering which will go to the Sheldon Memorial Hospital as a recognition of the work they do among the needy of the city and will continue to do in the free clinics for which the Albion physicians give their services gratis. If you will not be at any church on Sunday, leave your contribution at 106 W. Center St., the Girard barber shop, where they will be received by Mr. Girard, the president of the "Go-Getters' class of the Presbyterian Church, who originated the idea."

March 27, 1926. "A valuable tract of land on the corner of S. Hannah St. and Concord Rd., owned by Mr. and Mrs. Charles Findley, was sold Friday through the Loder Real Estate and Insurance Agency to George E. Dean. His holdings in this section Mr. Dean has named "Haven Hills." "Concord village will vote on the matter of adopting Eastern Standard time to aid the Business Men's association in settling the question."
